My Birthday Dinner!

Yesterday I hit my age of fourth century and celebrated my birthday with my family, yay! And we always do that with a good feast at a restaurant and this time we went to ‘Steakhouse de Lachende Koe’! It’s our 2nd time dining here as the first time was 2 years ago with my dads birthday which you can read the post here!

I was very keen with their fries as a side dish because I have special thing for side dishes! Especially for fries and good fries is always a yes in my (everyone’s) book. Even when the main dish is very good and the side dish not, I’d be still quite disappointed.

So! I made sure we got a table and made a reservation which was needed because we stepped into a jam-packed restaurant. De Lachende Koe is a steakhouse and maybe not quite suitable for a pescetarian like me but again the side dishes won me over. Plus, they have fish on their menu and one vegetarian option as well.

Please scroll down to see what we all gobbled up! I can tell you that the dessert was absolute the highlight of the evening c:

Free starter: pearl onions and sausage?

I picked 'Soup of the Day' which was creamy mushroom soup. It was mega salty sadly.

The long waiting starts...

After our starters we had to wait ages for our main to arrive. We all ordered seafood and maybe that's the reason for delay in this steakhouse but still. Luckily I've brought my hook stuff to kill time.

The main!
I tried the 'Fish of the day' which was: mackerel filet with white sauce and minced bacon, onions and mushroom. The fish was very salty but the white sauce compensates. I didn't eat the minced goods because of the bacon and I thought the few red pepper here and there were a bit misplaced. Not a successful dish.

But the golden fries and mayo were a treat and it was 3 months ago since I had my last portion of fries so it was extra indulge for me.

This was my papa's main which was a lot better than mine. I tried one of the clams and it was really sweet and tasty.

Dessert time!
There's always room for dessert: crème brûlée with vanilla liqueur, banana ice cream, praline, mousse and blue berries! And it was extremely good! The vanilla liqueur was pretty nice and strong and I made sure I took a small sip inbetween the rest of the dessert.

  1. Happy belated birthday, Mei! I love good french fries too :)

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The perfect birthday spent with family at a place you guys enjoy! I can never say no to a good batch of fries, and now you have me craving them :)

  3. good feast, yes that's necessary. absolutely necessary. i don't enjoy birthdays, tbh but for a good feast, i'm up for it. i never held any parties though (like, i don't even care about sweet 17 or whatever) so i always go for good feast only with parents haha

everyone loves potatoes! haha my friends think i'm insane because i prefer potato than rice (they're like "all asians are supposed to love riceee!") but my favorite has got to be mashed potato or potato wedges ~

i'm pescetarian like 95% of the time but when it comes to steakhouse, i always go for the meat. it's more like a once in a blue moon thing though, for me to go have steak since i'm not a huge fan of meat, at least not anymore. still, i usually prefer going to steak restaurant that has 'meathouse' written because then i get to pick the parts of beef i wanna eat :P

dessert looks superb omg!! creme brulee is amazing~ not my super massive favorite dessert but when the restaurant knows how to serve creme brulee correctly, that treat is superb ;)

    happy birthday, mei! /o/

  4. Wishing you the Happiest of Birthdays! What a lovely dinner! <3

  5. Oh Happy Birthday to you!!! That's so lovely that your family went for dinner! I don't often go out for special dinners out with the family. I'm totally yearning for crusty bread and some yummy dessert right now!

  7. Gosh the food looks yummy, especially that creme brulee! Happy birthday by the way, hope your day was amazing :)

  8. Happy Birthday! It looks like you had one awesome diner!

  9. Happy happy happy birthday sweet Mei! :) Mmm I feel the same when side dishes are good they have almost completely won me over, specially with fries, hahahaha :) The bread also looks good in the pictures! That's also another detail that make me love more one place, when they have recently baked good bread. Hope you have a nice time, did you get any present? ;)

  10. happy belated birthday! i love how you brought your yarn! :)

  11. Happy belated birthday! OOOH I'd have to say that the dessert is my favorite course :) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
